Abington Queries
A queries page is not a shortcut for research. It is intended to aid those who have already exhausted easily available sources of information and are looking for information from new, obscure or hard-to-find sources. If you submit a query the webmaster may reject it if he decides that you should first pursue other avenues of research.
This queries page is intended only for genealogical research. Please ask specific genealogical questions about specific individuals. General inquiries about families, or inquiries such as searches for living relatives, are not appropriate and will not be posted.
This page is reserved for queries about people who lived in Abington. If you do not know the Plymouth County town of residence for a person you should post your query on the Plymouth County Queries Page or in the Plymouth Colony Forums.
I've prepared a submission form for queries. Please submit a seperate query for each surname and feel free to post as many Abington queries as you wish.
PLEASE NOTE that email addresses on this page other than my own are displayed as graphics, not as links. I understand that this is inconvenient for some visitors, especially those who are visually impaired. I believe that it is necessary in order to reduce spam and protect the privacy of those posting queries. If you have any difficulty reading an email graphic you can click on it to view a magnified version. If you prefer you can send me email with the name of the person who placed the query and I will send you their email address.

REED
October 15, 2008; Marvin E. Reed
![]()
Samuel REED [the great-grandfather of my great-grandfather, Capt. George W. Reed], was born in Weymouth in 1740, and was the father of Philip REED b. 1777, "who resided in South Abington." My primary documentation for this relationship is Chamberlain, History of Weymouth, Vol. 4, p. 573. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who can lead me to additional documentation on the life of Philip Reed, who was said by Jacob Whittimore Reed in his (not always reliable) History of the Reed Family in England and America to be known as "Deacon Reed of South Abington."
REED / COOK
June 3, 2008; Marvin Reed
![]()
Seeking someone knowledgeable about Henry Wilson REED (1826-1908) and his wife Lucy Ann (COOK) REED (1927-1917) of Abington, South Abington, and Whitman, and/or their descendants, who would undertake to assist me in identifying a few family portraits (photos) that have been handed down through three generations to me. Most of these photos were processed and mounted by studios then operating in Abington, Rockland or nearby, but my forebears did not add any back notes identifying the subjects of these portraits. These photos presumably are from various periods between the 1870s and 1920s.
Among those families whose members conceivably could be of assistance are REED, COOK, OSBORNE, BENSON, CASEWELL, WINSLOW, GLOVER, HATCH, and SAMPSON. Any others who think they may be able to asist would be welcome to respond as well.
I would be glad to forward examples by e-mail to those who feel that they may have relevant knowledge or who may have access to relevant photos for comparison purposes.

My grandfather, James Thomas CLARK, was the son of John Leslie CLARK. I beleive that John's father was Thomas CLARK. All lived in North Abington on Randolph St. Is anyone working on this family?
GURNEY
January 22, 2008; David Gurney
![]()
I am trying to find out if James Smith GURNEY (born 17-May-1819 in Abington), son of Melvin GURNEY and Olive HOLBROOK, and husband of Elizabeth W. LOUD of Weymouth, is the same person as the James S. GURNEY (in Abington in the 1850 and 1860 censuses) who is the father of Jane W. and James F. GURNEY. There is another James GURNEY (born 20-Apr-1819) who was the son of Edmund and Betsey GURNEY and who married Betsey MURPHY.
CROSSMAN
January 20, 2005; Anne Flaxman
![]()
I am looking for information about John CROSSMAN who was born in Canada 31-Oct-1874. He lived in Abington and worked as a shoeworker (I think) until around 1915 when he left town and there is no further word about him.
BROWN
April 16, 2004; Thomas Blackburn
![]()
Henry B. BROWN became principal of an Abington high school around 1865. I'd like to know if he is the same person who was US Consul in Bermuda in late 1850s, and worked as an artist for John Russell Bartlett of U.S.-Mexican Boundary Commission in 1851-2.
BLAKE / TOWNSEND
November 8, 2003; Stewart Rowe

William BLAKE married Miriam TOWNSEND in Abington 04-Jan-1753, I think the first marriage in Abington records. Does anyone know who their parents were, or have a suggestion for where to look?
