ALDEN, OR VERNON, STREET

GRAVE-YARD,

TITICUT.

[Transcribed by Dale H. Cook]

   1.   Father.   Elijah Alden, born Jan. 17, 1800, died Oct. 8, 1879.
                  In my father's house are many mansions.
                  Husband and father thou hast gone to thy rest;
                  We moan thy departure;
                  But the Lord knoweth best.
                  A short illness was hoped for;
                  God granted thy request, and called thee home to the
                              land of the blessed.

   2.   Mother.   Hannah B., wife of Elijah Alden, born Apr. 10, 1809, died June 15, 1880.
                  Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.
                  Dear the mother we hoped might be more,
                  But too strong the attachment for thy mother,
                  Who had just gone before.
                  God bless thee with children who remain here to weep,
                  Yet they know their work is ended,
                  And in Jesus fallen asleep.

   3.   Harriet Bassett, daughter of Elijah and Hannah Alden, born April 14, 1845, died Dec 1, 1857.
                  She has gone to heaven before us.

   4.
                  In deeds, not words; in thoughts, not breaths.
         Daniel L. Hayward, born Dec. 5, 1804, died May 12, 1871.
                  The righteous shall shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of
                     their father.

   5.   Hannah Mariah, daughter of Daniel and Hannah Hayward, born Dec. 9, 1837, died Dec. 9, 1873.
                  Gone home, gone home, her ernest, active spirit,
                  Her very playfulness, her heart of love,
                  The heavenly mansion now she doth inherit,
                  Which Christ made ready ere she went above.

   6.   Edwin Hayward, member of Co. I, 38 Regt., M. V., born Jan. 17, 1844, died at Batorouge, La., Aug. 21, 1863.
