Index of Names

     I have simplified this index by regularizing the spelling of given names and surnames, using the spellings that are most commonly found.   For example, the marriage of "William Urrohart" is indexed under ORCUTT, the common spelling of his family's surname.   Variants of given names are generally reduced to a single form, thus "Mehetable," "Mehitable" and similar variants are all listed as "Mehetabel."   I have placed some limits on this regularization - "Elisabeth" is indexed under "Elizabeth," but "Bettie" is not, being indexed instead under "Betty."

     The given names of wives are also entered under their married surnames.

     Children without given names are listed at the end of their surname section, as (Child), (Daughter) or (Son).

     Ministers, justices of the peace, and other people incidentally mentioned have seperate entries under their surnames with their given names [in square brackets].

     SPECIAL NOTE - HAWARD / HAYWARD / HOWARD — The surnames Haward, Hayward and Howard are easily confused in the Bridgewater records, as all three spellings can be found in the records for Howard family members, and the first two can be found for Haywards.   I have indexed each of the three seperately, with each entry indexed as it is spelled in that entry.   Readers are advised to check all three surname spellings.
