In Winthrop's Journal, p. 23d, we find "a vessel arrived from Bristol in 1631, and among the passengers the name of Augre appears. We find also the name of a Mr. Augur, at New Haven, 1667." The families of John and Hannah Aulgar, of John and Sarah Aulgar, and of Matthew and Martha Aulgar, appear from 1652 to 1682, on Boston records; were also it appears John Alger m. Sarah Seely 1721.Farmer's Register also gives the name of Nicholas Auger, a learned physician of New Haven, 1638, and his brothers, John and Robert; taken from Dodd's East Haven Register. William Auger, or Agar, also was admitted freeman in Mass. 1631, and lived in Salem 1637, and d. 1665. Jacob Auger was at Braintree 1689.
ALLEN.Samuel Allen, of Braintree and his wife Ann, had Samuel 1632, Joseph, James, Sarah 1639, Mary and Abigail. His w. Ann d. 1641, and he had a 2d w. Margaret: whether she was mother of any of the children is not known; his will 1669, wherein the children are named in the above order.Sarah m. Lieut. Josiah Standish.Mary m. Nathaniel Greenwood 1655.Abigail probably m. John Cary 1670.
1. Samuel Allen, a Deacon, and son of Samuel Allen above named, settled in E. B. as early as 1660, and was the second town clerk, to whom we are much indebted for the fulness and perfection of the records; he m. Sarah, D. of George Partridge of Duxbury; she was born 1639; they had Samuel 1660, Essiel 1663, Mehitabel 1665, Sarah 1667, Bethiah 1669, Nath'l. 1672, Ebenezer 1674, Josiah 1677, Elisha 1679, Nehemiah 1681. His will 1703; he d. 1703, æ. 71.Mehitabel m. Isaac Alden 1685.Sarah m. Jonathan Cary, who d. about 1695, and she afterwards m. Benjamin Snow 1705.Bethiah m. John Pryor.
2. Samuel (s. of Samuel 1.) m. Rebeckah, D. of John Cary, 1685, and had Samuel 1686, Ephraim 1689, Timothy 1691, Joseph 1693*, Mehitabel 1695. The mother d. 1697, and he m. Mary (D. perhaps of Joseph Alden,) 1700, and had Joseph 1701, Benjamin 1702, Mary 1704, Rebecca 1706, Matthew 1708, Seth 1710, and Abigail. His will 1736.Timothy, Joseph and Benjamin perhaps, went to N. J. or elsewhere; Mehitabel m. a Bushnell.Mary m. Henry Kingman 1726.Rebeckah m. John Kingman.Abigail m. Shubael Waldo, of Windham, 1730. (There was a Samuel Allen who m. Jane Turner, of Weymouth, 1728, and d. 1750, and called Jr., probably the son; there is no further record of him.)Ephraim went to Berkley, and was a blacksmith.
3. Nathaniel (s. of Samuel 1.) m. Bethiah, D. probably Nathaniel Conant, 1696, and lived at Conant's Bridge, and afterwards in S. B., and had Andrew 1698, Hannah 1700, James 1704. The mother d., and he had a 2d wife Abigail, (it is Mary
