Articles about Bridgewater

Published in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register

Introduction

A number of articles pertaining to Old Bridgewater have been published in the Register.   Those that I have transcribed are consolidated here for the benefit of Bridgewater reasearchers who may not have easy access to the Register.

I have tried to render a faithful reproduction of the Register pages in HTML form, following the original format in the use of italics, superscript (ye) and double dating (170½).   Portions of another article on a page have been omitted and the fact noted [in square brackets and in red], and the volume and page numbers have been added to the top of each page in the same format, as have some notes added by the HTML editor.

Marriages in the Town of Bridgewater Previous to Its Division

By Bradford Kingman

These appear to have been transcribed from the town record books, beginning with the town's first recorded marriage (1676) and ending with the final division of the town into five precincts (1722).

Pages included:

Volume 21 [1867]: 225, 226, 227, 228

Marriages in the North Parish of Bridgewater (Now North Bridgewater), From January 1, 1742, to January, 1780.   By Rev. John Porter.

By Bradford Kingman

This does not appear to be the transcription of a list kept by Rev. Porter.   Instead it appears to be a synthetic list, compiled by Kingman from various sources.   This list should therefore be used with caution as its reliability is questionable.

Pages included:

Volume 19 [1865]: 200, 201, 202, 203, 204

Record of Marriages Solemnized in the East Parish of Bridgewater, Mass. from March 4, 1725, to August 3, 1803, by Rev. John Angier and Rev. Samuel Angier

By Rev. Henry F. Jenks

This is a transcription from a manuscript record of marriages written by Revs. John and Samuel Angier.   The manuscript was passed down through the descendants of the Revs. Angier.

Pages included:

Volume 45 [1891]: 12, 13, 14, 142, 143, 144, 145, 244, 245, 246, 283, 284, 285

Volume 46 [1892]: 55, 56, 57, 167, 168, 169, 170, 171
