Brockton Queries

A queries page is not a shortcut for research. It is intended to aid those who have already exhausted easily available sources of information and are looking for information from new, obscure or hard-to-find sources. If you submit a query the webmaster may reject it if he decides that you should first pursue other avenues of research.

This queries page is intended only for genealogical research. Please ask specific genealogical questions about specific individuals. General inquiries about families, or inquiries such as searches for living relatives, are not appropriate and will not be posted.

This page is reserved for queries about people who lived in North Bridgewater or Brockton. If you do not know the Plymouth County town of residence for a person you should post your query on the Plymouth County Queries Page or in the Plymouth Colony Forums.

I've prepared a submission form for queries. Please submit a seperate query for each surname and feel free to post as many Brockton queries as you wish.

PLEASE NOTE that email addresses on this page other than my own are displayed as graphics, not as links. I understand that this is inconvenient for some visitors, especially those who are visually impaired. I believe that it is necessary in order to reduce spam and protect the privacy of those posting queries. If you have any difficulty reading an email graphic you can click on it to view a magnified version. If you prefer you can send me email with the name of the person who placed the query and I will send you their email address.

COOK

January 7, 2003; Priscilla Okonske

Seeking information on an Arthur G. COOK listed in the 1920 census of Brockton with his wife, Frances K. and sons, Thomas H. and Milton G. Also living in the household were a boarder, Donald M. COOK and two nieces, Gladys L. MILNER and Bessie G. MILNER, ages 17 and 16. These two nieces were found living with my grandparents, Wesley and Alice BEARD in Swampscott, MA in the 1910 census. I know that my grandmother had relatives living in Brockton and wonder if Frances COOK could be her sister. Does anyone have any information on this family?

COUSINEAU

April 28, 2004; Linda Lepsesty

Seeking info on my great aunt Josephine "Josie" (BURKE) COUSINEAU, mother to Shirley COUSINEAU. Josephine was born 26-Feb-1882, daughter of John and Anastasia (PURCELL) BURKE of Halifax, Nova Scotia. I believe she died at Weymouth about 1974. She ran or helped to run a boarding house in or around Brockton in early 1900's. She was sister to Matilda "Tillie" (BURKE) SHEARING, who lived for many years in Brockton. I would like to contact any members of Josephine's family.

FORD

February 12, 2003; Kristen Ford

Looking for any nformation on Thomas FORD, born in Brockton 1886-1888, son of Thomas and Margaret Costello Ford.

GILES

September 9, 2004; Denise

Seeking information on Elizabeth Mary GILES; b. Apr-1895 in Brockton; m. Simon LE BLANC on a Christmas Day about 1917. Her parents were Henry Francis GILES and Margaret WHITTY, who had about 9 children. They supposedly owned a grocery store in Brockton and lived above it, and supposedly sold land to Rocky MARCIANO in the 20s or 30s for him to build his house.

GORMAN

August 31, 2002; Mary Gorman

Looking for information on the GORMAN Family, which moved to Brockton around 1900.

The first GORMANS in America were William and Hannah who came to the U.S. around 1870 and settled in West Bridgewater. I suspect William had brothers who were already living there. Three of their children, Mary, Edward, and John emigrated with them, the other five, Michael, William, Dennis, Thomas, and Julia were born in the U.S. William died in 1898; his widow Hannah (whose maiden name was GLEESON or GLEASON) remarried a man name John CONNORS in 1900.

Julia died of pneumonia in 1883. Michael, William and Thomas (and possibly others) all moved to Brockton where they may or may not still have descendants (Thomas definitely does). Michael was married to Mary Ellen ("Nellie"?) GOLDEN, William to Margaret Ella FOX, and Thomas to Mary MACNEIL. Michael died in 1911; Thomas in 1928; and William in the 1940's - all are buried in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Bridgewater.

Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

HALEY

February 7, 2004; Wendy (Wood) Hawksley

I am seeking info on the HALEY family which descends from Edward Marshall HALEY (b. 1810 in Dublin, Ireland). He settled in Plympton and married Clarissa B. BARRETT of Plymouth. Most of the descendants stayed in the Plymouth County area, and a few lines came to Brockton. I have lots of info - too much to post here. Looking to meet other descendants.

HAYWARD

February 28, 2003; Karin Knutsen

Seeking information about Helen Mabel HAYWARD born 11-Jul-1921 in Brockton. Helen, the daughter of Harry Elmer HAYWARD and Helen Mabel STAPLES, married Walter Thomas CHILD in 1937.

HAYWARD / WHITE

January 31, 2004; Karin Knutsen

Seeking information about Frank F. HAYWARD, born about 1855 in Brockton, and his wife Maria WHITE from Nova Scotia. Their son was Harry E. HAYWARD (1887-1957) who was a truck driver for the City of Brockton.

SHEARING

August 7, 2002; Linda Lepsesty

Grandfather George Wm. SHEARING was born in England, married Matilda BURKE in 1881 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and died in 1953. He lived in Brockton and was a member of the Nest of Owls in the early- to mid- 1900's. I would appreciate any information on this 'club' - I can't find anything regarding it on the Net. I am also interested in contacting any other members of his family and in learning who his parents were.
