[The Mayflower Descendant, 24 [1922]:121]

  Duxbury Gravestone Records 121

No account of the family of Charles and Sally Weston would be complete if it did not include "Mary Ann".   But the N. E. H. G. Society's book does not mention her name, although it refers to the gravestone on which her name appears, in connection with the children Emily and Sylvanus, and, unfortunately, refers to it in a way which seriously misleads readers, who suppose that there are two separate stones (instead of only one), each with a date of death, and that it will be useless to search in this cemetery for any other record of a child of Charles and Sally Weston before 1850.

The evidence that Mary Ann Weston was born and died before 1850 is sufficient to show that her name, with the necessary explanation, should have been included in the N. E. H. G. Society's book.

Accurate and exhaustive abstracts of the inscriptions on the twenty gravestones found in the cemetery in July, 1907, with explanatory notes, are here printed.

[THE GRAVESTONE RECORDSWITH NOTES]

Atwood, Capt. Jesse, died 6 December, 1827, aged 37.   "A husband kind, a father dear" . [Although no birth, marriage or death of an Atwood, except this one, is found in the N. E. H. G. Society's book, it does not print the line showing that Capt. Jesse was married and a father.   Important information was, therefore, omitted.]

Chandler, Henry, died 4 September, 1859, aged 94 years, 9 months, 7 days.   [After 1849, therefore not included in N. E. H. G. Society's book.]

Chandler, Susanna, wife of Henry, died 8 June, 1850, aged 81 years, 3 months, 23 days.   [After 1849, therefore not included in N. E. H. G. Society's book.]

Daman, Abigail, wife of Zachariah, died 16 May, 1836, aged 18 years.

Hyde, Mary Goodrich, youngest daughter of "Rev. Edward, & Mrs. Elizabeth N. Hyde", died 1 August, 1825, aged 5 years, 4 months.   [N. E. H. G. Society's book omits "N." in the mother's name, and incorrectly prints the year as "1823".]

Josselyn, Martin B., son of Rev. Aaron and Ann, died 20 July, 1838, aged 2 years.

Paulding, Mary Elisabeth, daughter of William and Mary, died 9 July, 1838, aged 4 years, 10 months, 6 days.
