MFIP Cooke recounts that at the Jun-1721 Court Abigail accused Jonathan Inglee of Middleborough of being the father of her child; a footnote there says "She is apparently the Mrs. Abigail, widow of Mr. Jonathan Packard who died May 19, 1766 in 91st yr. (Bridgewater Epitaphs p. 15 [Latham 15]), but the year or age is surely wrong." Latham's transcription of Abigail's gravestone is in error, and is probably the source of the erroneous year in WBriVR 211. Abigail's gravestone clearly reads: "Memento Mori / In Memory of Mrs / Abagail wido to Mr / Jonathan Packard, who / departed this life may / ye, 19th 1786 in ye, 90th / Year of her Age." David and his five younger brothers settled in the old North Parish of Bridgewater (later the town of North Bridgewater, now the city of Brockton). Most of the Packards in the United States are descended from one of these six brothers. David lived in what in the early 19th century was the Captain Robert Packard place (see David Packard, Brockton's Sixth Settler). His gravestone was carved by Nathan Hayward and pictured in "Ebenezer Howard: Our Mystery Carver Identified," by Theodore Chase and Laurel K. Gabel [NEHGR 141:296].

He married second intention 16-Nov-1771 Bridgewater [BriVR 2:273, 385] Deliverance (Orcutt) Washburn; born about 1707 (died aged 83) probably Bridgewater; died 05-Dec-1790 Bridgewater [BriVR 2:532, Latham 91]; daughter of William and Hannah (Smith) Orcutt and widow of Joseph Washburn.
Abiel was a captain in the militia and also the greatest landowner in the North Parish. He owned 1000 acres of land in one place and settled 7 of his sons on the same.
