Halifax Queries

A queries page is not a shortcut for research. It is intended to aid those who have already exhausted easily available sources of information and are looking for information from new, obscure or hard-to-find sources. If you submit a query the webmaster may reject it if he decides that you should first pursue other avenues of research.

This queries page is intended only for genealogical research. Please ask specific genealogical questions about specific individuals. General inquiries about families, or inquiries such as searches for living relatives, are not appropriate and will not be posted.

This page is reserved for queries about people who lived in Halifax. If you do not know the Plymouth County town of residence for a person you should post your query on the Plymouth County Queries Page or in the Plymouth Colony Forums.

I've prepared a submission form for queries. Please submit a seperate query for each surname and feel free to post as many Halifax queries as you wish.

PLEASE NOTE that email addresses on this page other than my own are displayed as graphics, not as links. I understand that this is inconvenient for some visitors, especially those who are visually impaired. I believe that it is necessary in order to reduce spam and protect the privacy of those posting queries. If you have any difficulty reading an email graphic you can click on it to view a magnified version. If you prefer you can send me email with the name of the person who placed the query and I will send you their email address.

LESTER / LISTER

October 5, 2008; Kay Clarke

I have reason to believe that my ancestor William LESTER/LISTER died accidently and was buried in a Halifax cemetery around 1824. He was probably born about 1790, was married with probably 3 children. I would very much appreciate hearing from someone who knows if this could be true.

DAVIDSON

May 29, 2008; Isabelle Gilmore

I found this obituary in the Boston Globe for 11 Sept. 1874: "In Halifax, 30th Ult., Francis Davidson, late of Boston." I am wondering if this could be my gr. grandfather Francis DAVIDSON (b. 1822 West Indies) since he & his family had lived in Dorchester, also on High St. & on Chestnut St. in Boston, & had a merchant trade on India St. by the Long Wharf in the 1860's. Then, after the Great Fire in 1872 they must have moved away, but I don't know where. The last documentation on Francis after that is a passport application signed Oct. 1873 in N.Y. to go visit his father who had been U.S. Consul in Puerto Rico (Thomas DAVIDSON b. 1794 Tewksbury MA). However, my gr. grandmother Isabella (Hale) DAVIDSON (b. 1819 in Boston, d. 1896 Concord, MA) was in Washington, D.C. in 1880 to give a deposition for a son's court martial. He, after having served in the U.S. Cavalry, was now working there for the War Dept. Although these military documents provided me with some information, none was about Francis, her husband. I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what steps to take to see if the above obituary pertains to my ancestor. If so, he would have left his wife and their two youngest children, "Thomas" Lindsey Ward & Belle DAVIDSON, ages 18 & 7, still at home in 1874.

WAITE

December 9, 2003; Anne Diehm

Looking for John W. WAITE, born about 1816, and George W. WAITE, born 18-Jun-1818 "in Halifax" to John and Abiah Dean (HALL) WAITE. I assume that John WAITE died before 1820, as Abiah is back with her father, Noah HALL of Gouldsborough, ME, by the 1820 census.

TINKHAM

June 21, 2003; Diane Wolford

Seeking information about Isaac TINKHAM, b. 1685 (probably Middleboro), d. 1750 in Halifax. He was also listed as a Deacon there. He married Abijah WOOD. I have more on the Plymouth County Tinkhams and am willing to share.
