SERGEANT DANIEL LINCOLN.

   1.   DANIEL, kn. as "the Sergeant," and also as "boatman," as "seaman," and as "the senior Daniel Lincoln," was a resident of Hing. as early as 1644-45, when he and three other young men were permitted to set up a gallery in the first meeting-house.   He prob. was a s. of Daniel Lincoln of Hingham, Eng., and bt. at St. Andrew's Church in that parish 28 March, 1619.   That he was related to some of the Lincoln families who came from Norfolk Co., Eng., to our Hing. seems more than probable; but whether nearly or remotely is not clear.   The christian name of his wife was Susanna.   She outlived him, and d. 20 Feb. 1703-4.   He d. 19 March, 1698-99, æt. 80th yr.   His will, dated the 16th of Sept. 1692, was proved the 18th of May, 1699.   Inv. £247 6s. 0d.   Sons Daniel and Ephraim executors.   He was one of the proprietors among whom the common lands were divided.   Selectman 1685 and 1692, and frequently called upon to act as referee.   Resided on Fort Hill St.   [See deposition (3:359)]

Dec. 9, 1710), Elizabeth Whitcomb, dau. of Robert and Mary (Cudworth) Whitcomb of Scit.   She d. in Hing. 24 Aug. 1730.   He d. 28 Nov. 1724, æt. 62 yrs.   Will dated 20 Nov. 1724.   Inv. £773 10s.   "Farmer."   Selectman 1708.   Resided on the paternal homestead, Fort Hill St.
