MARBLE (MARABLE, MARVEL).

   1.   GERSHOM, the progenitor of all who have borne this surname by birth in Hing. and vic., was in early life a mariner, and for a while a resident of Charlestown, Mass., where his first w. Mary d. 30 Dec. 1694, being, as the rec. says, "a young womá."   He afts. removed to Hing. sec. pre., and m. secondly, at Scit., 1697, Waitstill Ingle.   She d. in Hing. 14 Nov. 1728.   He d. 6 Aug. 1725, æt. 60 yrs.   Resided on Beechwood St.   In his will, dated at Hing. 27 Oct. 1724, proved 14 Dec. 1725, gives to w. Waitstill "the use of my dwelling-house and house lott of land and all my indoor moveables during her natural life."   To son John £5.   To son Ephraim "1/3 of my Home lot after my wifes decease."   To dau. Mary Vinten £3.   "All the rest of my estate to my two sons David and Nathaniel Marble."   Sons David and Nathaniel executors.   Calls himself "husbandman."   The inventory of his est. is quite lengthy, specifying among the items, 6 oxen, 5 cows, a bull, heifer, 2 calves, 6 swine, house, barn, etc.   It is dated Hing. March 30, 1726.

   2.   JOHN2 (Gershom1), b. ab. 1700.   m. in Hing. Sept. 7, 1724, Esther Tower, dau. of John and Hester (Cantlebury) Tower.   She was b. in Hing. Sept. 22, 1700.   John d. intestate, Apr. 1738, as the rec. says, "suddenly at Cape Cod a whaling, leaving three small children."   June 26, 1740, Esther his wid. was appointed to adm. upon her late husband's est.

   3.   EPHRAIM2 (Gershom1), b. 1702, d. perhaps unm. 7 Jan. 1736-37, æt. 36th year.   March 1, 1736-37, Nathaniel Marble was appointed to adm. upon the est. of his brother Ephraim, "husbandman," late of Hing., deceased.   Inventory, £203 3s. 2d., appraised by Hezekiah Lincoln, Lazarus Beal, and Daniel Tower.

   4.   DAVID2 (Gershom1), b. ab. 1706.   m. Dec. 27, 1732, Abigail Joy, dau. of Prince and Abigail (Tower) Joy.   She was b. in Hing. March 22, 1713-14.   According to Deane's History, this fam. was at Scit. 1748.   David and David, Jr., however, were residents of Hing. sec. pre. at a later period.
