May 23, 1809, and surviving him, m. secondly, Nov. 19, 1855, David Lakin of Dux., and d. 14 Jan. 1876, æt. 67th yr. Micajah D. d. 2 March, 1850. "Truckman." Resided on South St., West Hing.

MELCHER.

CHARLES CHEEVER (George = Caroline Jones), b. at Portsmouth, N. H., Feb. 5, 1841, became a resident of Hing. 1870. He m. in Hing. Jan. 9, 1878, Abby R. Whiton, dau. of William and Abigail (Ripley) Whiton. She was b. in Hing. Aug. 25, 1848. "Bookkeeper" at Boston. Resides on Main St.

MERRICK (MORRICK).

JOHN, had a grant of land in Hing. 1637, and d. 2 July, 1647, leaving, says Mr. Savage, a s. John, and prob. wid. Elizabeth, who d. at Roxbury, "25, 6, 1650." In "1649, 13 (10) Elizabeth Morrick of Roxbury granted unto Thomas Thackster of Hingham in consideration of xviij^li by him pd. & twenty Acres & halfe of land Arable meadow & pasture being in Hingham, six acres thereof arable abutting one end on the sea, lyeing betweene the lands of John Palmer & Samuel Parker one peece of vpland of ten Acres butting [ ] Waymouth River neere to John [ ] meadow, one Acre & halfe of meadowe butting on the sea, betweene widdow Cutler & Thomas Joslins vpland. & foure Acres planting land butting on the sea, & Thomas Hewetts land on the one side thereof. & this by an absolute deed of sale w^th warranty." MERRITT.

PAUL BROOKS (Major Paul = Xoa Litchfield), a descendant of Henry Merritt, one of the earlier settlers of Scit., was b. at Scit. Oct. 7, 1824; came to Hing. 1849, and m. here May 10, 1854, Mary C. Farmer, dau. of Jedidiah and Mary Y. (Crooker) Farmer. She was b. in Hing. Feb. 27, 1829. Paul B. was for many yrs. a teacher in the public schools of Hing. Has removed to Washington, D. C.
