Coll. 1743, in the class with Samuel Thaxter, Shearjashub Bourne, Gad Hitchcock, and others, and was ord. pastor of the third (now second) parish in Hing. Dec. 10, 1746.   He m. first, March 25, 1753, Mary Cushing, dau. of Abel and Mary (Jacob) Cushing.   She was b. in Hing. Jan. 28, 1731-32, and d. 12 Feb. 1756, æt. 24 yrs.   For his second w. he m. at Pem. Jan. 6, 1763, Deborah Cushing, dau. of Elijah and Elizabeth (Barker) Cushing of Pem.   She d. in Hing. 1 Oct. 1823, æt. 85 yrs.   He d. 30 Aug. 1802, æt. 80 yrs.   Dr. Shute was a member of the Convention which formed the Constitution of Massa-
