STOWERS.

   1.   JOSEPH, whose name first appears on Hing. rec's ab. 1727, was constable here 1744, and one of the selectmen in 1752.   The chris. name of his w. was Lydia.   He resided on Main St., near Wilder's Bridge, and was by occupation "carpenter."
   Ch., all b. in Hing., were —

   i.   JOSEPH, Sept. 25, 1727, d. 5 Jan. 1741-42.
2. ii.   ELIJAH, March 24, 1729-30.
   iii.   LYDIA, March 19, 1732-33.   m. Feb. 3, 1755, John Beal, 3d.
   iv.   SETH, Sept. 4, 1735.   m. Jan. 16, 1766, Mary Lincoln, dau. of David and Mary (Hersey) Lincoln. (II. 477.)   She was b. in Hing. Sept. 24, 1742, and d. 15 Nov. 1828, æt. 86 yrs.   He d. 28 Dec. 1788, æt. 53 yrs.   Constable, 1767, and selectman 1781, 1782, and 1783.   He was present as a soldier during the massacre at Fort William Henry, and in the War of the Revolution was capt., having command of a company at Nantasket, and in Rhode Island.
   v.   CHLOE, Feb. 20, 1737-38.   m. May 7, 1761, John Clapp of Scit.
   vi.   SUSANNA, July 3, 1743, d. 31 Aug. 1746.

   2.   ELIJAH (Joseph = Lydia ——), b. in Hing. March 24, 1729-30.   m. Feb. 6, 1755, Susanna Burr, dau. of Jonathan and Mary (Lincoln) Burr.   She was b. in Hing. Jan. 27, 1733-34, and d. 12 Apr. 1805, æt. 71 yrs.   He d. 18 March, 1802, æt. 72d yr.   "Carpenter;" and in 1757 constable.   Resided on the paternal homestead, Main St., So. Hing.
   Ch., b. in Hing., —

   i.   SUSANNA, June 25, 1757.   m. March 13, 1783, Levi Burr.
   ii.   A SON, March 4, 1760.


   NOTE. — Mary, d. 31 Dec. 1677.   Molly, of Hing. m. Sept. 9, 1806, Caleb Keith of Wentworth, N. H.


STRANGE.

   GEORGE, came to Hing. 1636, prob. from Dor., Mass., where he had a grant of land 16 Nov. 1634.   Freeman 6 May, 1635.   The name of his w. does not appear on Hing. rec's.   On "the 21 : of the twelfe month 1639 (1639-40), George Strange of Hingham gentl granted to Jo : Stow of Rocksbury in consideration of forty pounds to him in hand paied, all yt his Teniment and buildinge wth the Apertinances therevnto belonginge lyinge in Hingham," etc.   George prob. remained here but a few years.   His
   Ch., bt. in Hing., were —

   i.   NATHANIEL, Feb. 1638; buried 29 Nov. 1642.
   ii.   ELIZABETH, May 2, 1641.

STRAUSS.

   CHARLES MOSES (Nathan = Rachel Adler), was b. in the city of New York Apr. 15, 1840.   He m. at Memphis, Tenn., May 10, 1867, Julia R. Kaufmann, dau. of David and Anna (Emanuel) Kaufmann.
