The Macombers from Colonial days to the latter part of the 19th century, were identified in town affairs.   Thomas Macomber1 was chosen the first Town Treasurer after the union of the colonies.   William was Town Clerk from 1784 to 1786.
The Macombers were Town Treasurers for many years.   Chas. W. Macomber was Town Treasurer for 17 years, and selectman for a number of years.   William Macomber2 was commissioned an ensign by Gov. Hutchinson (the King's Governor) in 1772.   The document is held by Herbert I. Macomber, a living descendant in 1904.   He was a tory during the revolution, but was not molested.   The farm now known as the Macomber farm has been continued in the possession of the family from the original grant in colonial days to the present time.
