Queries

We have revised our query submission process. If you would like to submit a query you will find guidelines on the same page as the Query Input Form.

A queries page is not a shortcut for research. It is intended to aid those who have already exhausted easily available sources of information and are looking for information from new, obscure or hard-to-find sources. If you submit a query the webmaster may reject it if he decides that you should first pursue other avenues of research.

This queries page is intended only for genealogical research. Please ask specific genealogical questions about specific individuals. General inquiries about families, or inquiries such as searches for living relatives, are not appropriate and will not be posted.

This page is reserved for queries about people who lived in Plymouth County, but whose town of residence is unknown, or who lived in multiple towns. If you know the Plymouth County town of residence for a person you should post your query to one of the town-specific query pages, if one exists for that town. See the Town Websites to check for town-specific query pages. In addition to this page you could post your query in the Plymouth Colony Forums in order to reach a larger audience.

PLEASE NOTE that email addresses on this page other than my own are displayed as graphics, not as links. I understand that this is inconvenient for some visitors, especially those who are visually impaired. I believe that it is necessary in order to reduce spam and protect the privacy of those posting queries. If you have any difficulty reading an email graphic you can send me email with the name of the person who placed the query and I will send you their email address.

Looking for info on Joseph HASKIN, born 24-Mar-1761.

WADE
June 9, 2003; Geoffrey Pope

I would like to obtain the will of Amos WADE, 1732?-1808?, and to confirm that Amos WADE and his first wife Phebe WILLIAMS were the parents of Seth WADE. Amos WADE was born in Bridgewater about 1732, and was Captain of a company of Minutemen in the Revolution. Amos WADE's father was Ichabod WADE, and he also had a brother named Ichabod (the latter also a Minuteman). Amos married Phebe WILLIAMS (a descendant of Thomas ROGERS of the Mayflower) in Scituate in 1758. Seth WADE (who used the spelling WAID from about 1807) was born in Middleborough about 1764. Seth fought briefly in the Revolution in 1781, married Rest HATHAWAY in Taunton in 1798, and Seth and his family appear in the 1790 Census in Taunton.

Phebe WILLIAMS died about 1775. In 1776, her widower, Amos WADE, married (2d) Mary RICHMOND (also, I believe, a Mayflower descendant) in Middleborough. Amos WADE, by one account, ended his days in Franklin Co., MA, and died in Buckland in 1808. Seth WAID, whom I hope to confirm is Amos's and Phebe's son, bought land in Ontario County in central New York in 1807. I am told that Rest, his wife, did not sign re-conveyance in 1814 (suggesting she had died) and Seth died, apparently while traveling, in 1821 and is buried somewhere in New York State. Seth WAID's known children are sons Williams WAID (ca. 1792), Warner WAID (ca. 1794), Seth WAID, and Ozial WAID, and daughter Aresta WAID. Sons Williams, Warner and Seth WAID removed from Ontario County, NY to, Crawford County, PA, about 1816. Williams (my third great-grandfather) married Abigail SKINNER (daughter of Asahel SKINNER and Phebe GOULD, descendants respectively of Thomas SKINNER of Malden, MA, and Zaccheus GOULD of Topsfield, MA, both noted early immigrant families), and Warner, Williams WAID's brother, married Abigail's sister Hannah SKINNER. My line from Williams WAID and Abi SKINNER is through their son Ozial WAID (b. Crawford Co., PA, 1823), who married a fifth or thereabouts cousin of his, Sallie BUSH, daughter of Horatio BUSH. Both Ozial WAID and Sallie BUSH are descended form the FRENCH family, yet another early family in coastal Massachusetts.

WAID was my mother's maiden name. Evidently it is generally believed, but not documented, that Capt. Amos WADE and Seth WADE/WAID were father and son; since establishing my descent from Phebe WILLIAMS (Amos's wife at the time of Seth's birth) would also get me a confirmed line back to the Mayflower, this one is of particular interest. Amos WADE was a descendant of Nicholas WADE the immigrant.
