About This Site

New On This Site

March 13, 2016 - The third edition of my Index to the Receiving Tube Manuals is now available, including all tubes in my manuals published through 1955.

August 10, 2015 - I have finally completed the scan of my Tektronix 453 oscilloscope manual for serial numbers above 20,000. This is the version where FETs replaced the Nuvistors used in earlier production. Please read the note at the top of that page that explains multi-part downloads.

April 26, 2015 - I have long wanted a compact metal cabinet boatanchor communications receiver with a good BFO (BFOs vary in quality) to use as a bridge detector for instruments such as my General Radio Type 1606A radio frequency bridge. I have been given a Hallicrafters S-38 (original production, 6 tubes) which will need a lot of work but which will be ideal when completed. I have a page describing the renovation and modification of this set.

December 3, 2014 - My General Radio Type 805-C Standard Signal Generator has long been a workhorse in my shop. I have just completed a major overhaul of that instrument.

November 4, 2014 - I have begun to list electronic reference works in my library, both physical and electronic, in The Reference Library.

September 30, 2014 - I have begun to reformat some of the files on the site to make them easier to use. The most recent of those is the tube base chart to accompany "Weston Methods of Selective Analysis."

June 22, 2014 - I have begun to chronicle repairs to and restorations of some interesting instruments in The Star City Home for Wayward Instruments.

May 30, 2014 - From time to time I will add photos of my shop drawn from its use for antique radio repairs, test equipment and instrumentation repairs, and broadcast equipment repairs, illustrating My Compact Shop at Work.

April 20, 2014 - I have finally finish a major reorganization of my electronics workshop, and photos and descriptions are presented for The Compact Shop.

February 20, 2014 - There is a new section for Parts Replacement Guides.

January 26, 2014 - The newest additions are pages for Test Equipment Catalogs and for Parts Catalogs and Data Sheets.

January 21, 2014 - I have started a new section with scans of Test Equipment Manuals in PDF format.

October 21, 2011 - The Master Dial Belt Index, Battery Set File and downloadable Plate Load Table are now in PDF format.

March 21, 2008 - This site has moved, for what I hope will be the final time, to my new domain.

September 13, 2003 - I recently purchased a digital camera, and over the next few months I will be replacing scanned catalog pictures of equipment with photos of my collection.

May 4, 2003 - The newest addition is a selection of magazine and catalog covers from my collection.

May 2, 2003 - I have added indices for the radio models and test equipment models listed on this site.

April 27, 2003 - The General Radio section has been completely revised, and has been expanded to nine pages.  Almost all of my GR instruments are now listed.  Some additional instruments have added to the Other Lab-Grade Equipment section.

April 19, 2003 - The Hewlett-Packard section has been completely revised, and has been expanded to five pages.  All of my HP instruments are now listed.

March 9, 2003 - I've begun a major revision of this site.  If you've been here before you will notice the new look of this page.  I'm expanding the number of about and instruments shown here, with an eye toward illustrating most of my collection.  This revision will take place over several months.  Along the way I plan to purchase a digital camera in order to improve the photos here.
