Other Instruments
For each of the instruments described below I have listed the prices shown in the GR catalogs in my collection. Catalog O (Jun-1956) and Catalog T (Feb-1968) are online at the BoatAnchor Manual Archive.
General Radio Type 361-B Vacuum Tube Bridge
Here is one of the gems of my collection. Tube manufacturers needed a way to accurately measure the characteristics of their tubes, and this instrument was the state of the art in tube measurements in its time. The Type 361-B handles 4-pin tubes with UX and UY bases, up to 200 V plate voltage and 24 mA plate current, with AC or DC filaments. It measures amplification factor from 0 to 100, plate resistance from 0 to 100 kΩ, and mutual conductance from 0 to 10k μmhos. Metering is provided for filament and plate voltage and plate current. It is used with user-provided external power supplies, oscillator and detector. Prices in GR catalogs: F (Jun-1930) $220.00.
General Radio Type 908-R96 Dial Drive
The Type 908 series motorized drives are used to sweep the frequency output of manually operated equipment such as the GR Unit Oscillators. The Type 908-RS also provides a DC output voltage proportional to the angle of rotation for use with an X-Y plotter or an oscilloscope. Prices in GR catalogs: O (Jun-1956) $55.00, P (Apr-1959) $55.00, Q (May-1961) $67.00, R (May-1963) $75.00, S (Jul-1965) $85.00.
General Radio Type 1750-A Sweep Drive
This drive provides sweep capability similar to that of the Type 908-R96, but with considerably greater capabilities. A shaft with flexible couplings and a universal clutch allow it to be used with a wider variety of instruments. Prices in GR catalogs: O (Jun-1956) $440.00, P (Apr-1959) $460.00, Q (May-1961) $470.00, R (May-1963) $550.00, S (Jul-1965) $595.00, T (Feb-1968) $895.00.
General Radio Type 1931-A Amplitude-Modulation Monitor
For many years AM and shortwave broadcast stations were required by the FCC to own a calibrated monitor to provide continuous measurement of the station's modulation level. This instrument was also used for transmitter performance measurements with the matching Type 1932-A Distortion and Noise Meter. The modulation measurement range is 0 to 110% on positive peaks and 0 to 100% on negative peaks. The peak flasher can be adjusted from 0 to 100% for negative peaks. It was supplied with one of two sets of coils, covering 0.5 to 8 MHz or 3 to 60 MHz. Prices in GR catalogs: L (1948) $395.00, M (Oct-1951) $440.00, N (Jan-1954) $440.00, O (Jun-1956) $475.00.
